Research

What I study and write about: how organizations learn to work with AI, what makes students belong on a campus, whether a machine can be conscious, and why ideas now spread by virality instead of truth.

Publications

AI in corporate learning, student engagement

A chapter on the role of AI in corporate learning for World Scientific, the doctoral dissertation on non-religious college students and the papers from it presented at AERA, and the book in progress.

02

Memes vs. Genes

Book in progress

Ideas now evolve faster than the genes that carry the brains holding them, and they are selected by how far they spread, not by whether they are true.

03

AI and Consciousness

The delusion position

Theories of consciousness fall into three groups: dualist, embodied and delusion. I argue the third: AI does not need a soul or a body to match us, only to be as deluded about its self as we are.

AI in Education

Member of AIEOU, University of Oxford

I am a member of AI in Education at Oxford University (AIEOU), a research hub at Oxford’s Department of Education, where I do research into the use of AI in education.

AI in Corporate Learning

Book chapter · World Scientific, 2025

My chapter in Leveraging AI for Business Innovation, edited by J. Liebowitz and P. McAlindon, on what changes when a company brings AI into how its people learn: governance, the order in which roles are trained, and what a workforce can do once every person builds their own agents.

Non-Religious College Students

Doctoral dissertation and 2026 update

My dissertation found that students with no religion were less engaged and less satisfied in college, with no gap in grades. Since then they have become about four in ten young adults. I went back to the question with the polls and studies published since 2022.
